"cinnamon protocol"
Asked By: drgene

Background Info Hide
Well is my former wife again! This time she has my son 11 years old type 1 diabetic and put him on a cinnamon protocol. I know it's for type 2 only and she and her mother believe in this. I have contacted the Hospital Care Giver Head Nurse; and she states also not to be used. Any ideas how to approach this issue?

I am going to assume that the "cinnamon protocol"is in addition to your child's insulin regime, and not in place of. If your child was being deprived of insulin that, of course would be a criminal act. Cinnamon has been touted as being helpful in controlling blood sugars; most of the studies I have seen are not convincing to me. That being said, cinnamon is not considered harmful persay, and may be of some limited value. I would suggest you see what is involved in this protocol and do some more research. It may be that it won't be harmful ,and she may feel it is helping with blood sugar control. It probably helps more psychologically than physiologically.

If your former wife is treating with this and not insulin that could be a real problem. It wont make much of a difference for your son at all.
