"How do you wear your pump? Do you ever use your legs and arms as a site?"
Asked By: cindycantin

Background Info Hide
I am a type 1 diabetic, 36 years. Have been using stomach and backside for about 20 of those years. I live alone and due to shoulder arm issues seem to always have my sites in about the same area. I do rotate my sites as much as possible. Also, with todays fashions, it is sometimes hard to figure out where to wear/attach my pump. I am small breasted so I can't stick it in my bra, tried the thigh thing, was worried about cutting off circulation and really didn't work well. Plus I am short waisted :-) I have come up with some creative solutions, I am a sewer, add pockets etc and hope some day to come up with some creative clothing ideas to assist people like myself. Love the show!

Dear Cindy- I love your creativity. It really comes down to the type of pump you have. From all the adds it seems that the most versatile is the Omni-pod. This pump is most often used by athletes . At conventions I see them wear it on the back of the arm, thigh, upper abdomen, just to name a few.

I know there is a company that makes clothing items especially for kids with a variety of pouches. Google this idea and see if they would like your creative ideas.

For you specifically, I would call your pump company and ask the phone tech to give you hints on sites for your specific pump. Maybe write back and name your pump and see if some community members with your same pump have any good ideas for you. Take care and keep sewing great ideas for self management.

I am a Type1 and have had the OmniPod for about a year now. I first tried it around the waist/ab area and the back. Insulin absorbtion was not very good. So, I started wearing the Pod on the back of my arms. Insulin absorbtion was sooo much better for me. The down sides have been that accidental removal of the pod by snagging with shortsleeve shirts or towels drying off after showers. I have had a couple of times where I would be sore but not often and the benefit of insulin absorption reduces the amount I have to use at one time. Good luck and may God Bless you!
