Hello Muzzii; Very good question:
While diabetes has a crinkle of genetic susceptibility, as long as your husband is managing his diabetes well (as described by the following blood test parameters) :
  • A1C<7%
  • Blood pressure<130/80mmHG
  • Total cholesterol<200mg/dl
  • HDL>50mg/dl
  • LDL<100mg/dl, and all other aspects of his health are good, I would anticipate a healthy baby. Several health aspects figure into the mix, i.e. your health is good, hubby's health good, when anticipating a pregnancy, I encourage healthy eating and taking a pre-natal multi-vitamin supplement, (just a margin of safety), always review with your P(personal) C(care) P(physician) for any additional questions or clarifications. You might also attend a regular check-up with your hubby when he sees his PCP or Endocrinologist, (here you can get the copies of his latest lab indicators of diabetes self-management) and run this question by him/her as well.

If you are fearful that your baby will have diabetes, research does not support he/she is at higher risk than any other newborns. While, a person inherits susceptibility, when there is a family history for Ty1, does not mean that individual will develop this disease. TY1 screening may help predict the 'risk' however, several other variables figure into assigning risk, as to determine the % of actually being diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus? Hope this helps.

  • Regarding health and harm, seek out the medical disciplines for continued direction for diabetes and when needed the Ob/Gyn. Thanks for asking dLife. Best Regards Sue

If your husband who has diabetes is potent, you should be able to have a baby. Whether you can financially afford to have a baby is a question for a financial adviser. Your child will have a higher probability of developing type 1 diabetes some time after birth than if your husband did not have type 1, but this should have no effect on your physical health or your pregnancy. Assuming that your child did eventually develop type 1 diabetes, if your husband has learned to properly manage his diabetes so that he is otherwise healthy, the two of you should be able to safely raise your child. If your family embraces the health lifestyle habits that your husband must have to maintain good control, your entire family's overall health will be better than if you don't.

You dont make your questions very clear. Harmful in what way, in the way that damage could occur to you. No harm to you or a baby if they are born. He needs to watch what he eats and make sure to take his insulin so his blood sugar is in a good range he should know what he has to do.
