I am a little behind on my regular eye exams....I have been wearing the same glasses for the last two years. Could the diabetes be the cause of my symptoms?

Hi receipting,

Your vision problems may indeed be as a result of high blood sugars levels related to your diabetes. As a person recently diagnosed with diabetes you should get an exam at least yearly.

Some ways to control manage your diabetes include monitoring your blood sugars, watching your diet especially your food portions, and taking your diabetes medications if you have been prescribed any,

I am experiencing the same thing! I have worn glasses for years for distance. Never for reading. In the last week, the entire thing has flip flopped and suddenly I'm driving without my glasses because I'm almost blinded when I put them on. But I had to resort to going to the dollar store and purchasing a pair of reading glasses, 1.00 strength, and they work just fine. It's amazing and creepy at the same time.

Dear Receipting. We took my wife to the eye doctor BEFORE we went to the Endocrinologist. We kept the economy going by purchasing new contacts, eyeglasses and sunglasses . As we got her blood sugar under control, I went to the dollar store and bought a handful of reader glasses of all different strengths. The funny thing is- no more contacts, eyeglasses required and we splurged on a 6 dollar pair of readers which is ALL she needs now.
