"7 year old with hgb a1c of 5.4. borderline or ok??? has on and off hgh finger stick sugar levels i.e. 202 and 165"

It appears that diabetes is at the very early stages because random high blood sugars mean that insulin secretion is most likely impaired. I would have an endocrinologist do further testing, such as autoantibodies that can indicate ongoing diabetes. If you continue testing,test two hours post meal, as therse numbers start to rise first before fasting blood sugars. Treatment can then begin early if possible.

The term borderline has been replaced by prediabetic. It sure sounds like a type 1 down the road.
