"So, Why I have diabetes type 1?"
Asked By: kristapsl
Category: Type 1

Background Info Hide
Sorry about my English language skills, but I have a question. I am 31 year old. Two years ago I found out that I have a diabetes type 1. So I got a question: What are the reasons for it? Is it some how connected with my previous job (quit it because of diabetes). I was a Diver with almost 10 years experience. Also I was a diving instructor. I am physically fit. No one had diabetes in my family. No heavy sicknesses (just flu). So, Why I have diabetes type 1?

I would encourage you to check out the section on type 1 diabetes found here on the dlife website as there is a lot of good information. You are asking the million dollar question that we'd all like the answer to. We know that type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, but the triggers/causes are still unknown that set off the disease process. There are many things that have been studied to try and figure out couses, some of which include environmental factors and genetics. It is not uncommon for there to be no family history of type 1. So, now that you have type 1 it is important to focus on how to best manage your diabetes. Good luck as you seek new knowledge.
