The 220 BS reflects mostly on dinner coverage of insulin. Depending on the target values your doctor gave you, you may need more insulin (fast-acting) at dinner time. The basal(slow-acting) insulin seems to be adequate to keep am blood sugars stable. Young children in general are "allowed" to run higher blood sugars by their doctor to avoid getting too many lows. When my boys were young, their target values for blood sugars were higher than they are now. Check with your health care team to see if any adjustments need to be made in meal planning and/or insulin dose.
