"When first dianosed I went one month on low fat, low carb diet. Didn't lose one pound then Byetta was started & lost 60 lbs and now can't lose anymore"
Asked By: skpowell

Background Info Hide
After finally losing the 60 I have been following the same routine and can't lose anymore. The scale won't budge. Has my body gotten used to the Byetta? How did the Byetta change my chemistry in the first place. The doctor says "lapband surgery" and I say no way. I only about about 60 or 70 more to go. I think the chemistry is messed up in my body and now I'm stuck. I'd love more insight. I've had all sorts of blood work and everything seems fine. I'm thinking about combinations of foods to change the chemistry and stuff like that. Can anybody give me some answers. The dietition couldn't give me any answers to what was happening.

Dear skpowell-

What an excellent job you did in losing that weight. Take a few moments and enjoy your success. Byetta helped you in providing satiety and didn't mess up your chemistry. It facilitated the use of specific hormones and the use of insulin. So the question is what do you do now?

It sounds like you have reached a plateau which is very common in weight loss. Now it is about the utilization of calories. You did not mention any exercise. What do you you do to expend energy? The absolute best way to boost metabolism is exercise and what is called interval training.

If you are new to exercise this can mean something as simple as walking and every 5 minutes speed up your walking for 30 sec to a minute. You are beginning to train your body to increase your heart rate and have a good recovery time.

If you have an exercise routine begin a variety of aerobic training swimming, walking, cycling and add weight training. Working out your muscles help with increasing sustained calorie burning after exercise.

Visit your local gym or Y and see if the have certified exercise trainers to give you some helpful tips based on your overall fitness level. Make sure you get an ok from your MD first. Physical activity is a vital part of the 7 self-care behaviors. Take a look at the resources on dLife in the support forums and 7 self care behaviors. You might even find an exercise buddy.

Do well and start moving. Each week increase the time you are working out and the variety or activities and you will see success. Do well !
