Hi and thanks for writing dLife. First, congratulations on your successes and your wonderful efforts. It sounds like you have made many positive changes and that is not easy! It is certainly frustrating to see blood sugar levels elevated in spite of your efforts however blood sugars fluctuate for many reasons including stress, lack of activity, medications (for other conditions), lack of sleep and even dental disease. Also, it is important to realize that even with a good diet and lifestyle, your body may not be making enough insulin to control blood sugar levels and this needs to be addressed by your physician. Review your blood sugar testing patterns and lab work with your doctor and discuss what other strategies may be needed to improve your diabetes control. Meet with a registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator to review meal planning and proper technique of blood glucose monitoring to insure that you are getting accurate results. And if you have stopped exercising, check with your physician about starting again, and be sure to ask about any risks or restrictions with an exercise program given your history of heart disease. Best of luck to you!

I;'m no expert, of course, but I had the same problem. I have only had type 2 since May 2009. But even if I didn't eat at night my sugars would be high and higher than they were when I went to bed. I was on Glipizide 1 in the morning, but Dr. put me on 2 pills a day, 5 mg each. I take 1 in the morning and 1 around 8 p.m. or later. It seems to be working. My sugars are much lower in the morning now. Hope it helps a little. I think mine was due to that dawn syndrome thing and hopefully my medicine will continue to work good.

I seem to have the same problem as you. I have mostly good numbers during the day but the early morning levels are always high. You didn't say what meds you take for your diabetes. I take metformin twice daily and a small dose of actos in the morning. I can't figure out what is happening with the morning readings. I don't want to go on insulin, but I am afraid my doctor will do that soon. Have you gotten any answers?
