Thanks for writing dLife. The very first thing to do is to make an appointment to meet with an OBGyn and your endocrinologist for advice on blood glucose and medication management during pregnancy. The earlier the better, as blood glucose management is critical to the health of the developing fetus. As pregnancy progresses, insulin needs change and your diet will also need to be carefully monitored to make sure that you are consuming adequate calories and nutrition for your health and the health of the baby. You also may very well be asked to monitor your blood sugar more frequently than you are used to. A prenatal vitamin as well as possibly an iron supplement may be also prescribed. Be sure to also meet with a registered dietitian/certified diabetes educator for specific advice on menu planning, and review of blood sugar goals, since these are different in pregnancy with diabetes. Best wishes to you!
