It is never too late! You have some serious issues - especially concerning to me is the foot ulcer. I do not know where you live but there are local social services every where. I would start at the health department to find resources. Many pharmaceutical companies have medication assistance plans. Have you applied for medicaid, disability assistance, unemloyment? There are services to help - keep looking - don't give up. The complications will only get worse without care.

Auggie, I aam sorry to hear of your symptoms. I too expereinced the same situation several years ago. Die to the fact that I had no medical insurance, I was not able to get the treatment that I needed. As a result, I underwent a below the knee amputation this past December. I have since learned that there were so many community resources that I could have tapped into. Check with your local hospital and adkk about clinics fo rlow income or uninsured. My hospital ran a residency practice where I could go. It was aa great avenue. Whatever you do, do not avoid treaatment. TEST TEST TESt your blood and maintain good glucosee control. This will not undoi the damage but it will assist in the heaaling process. Please get some help befor you lose the leg. Best regards, Mark

I would not worry about not having insurance, your health is more important. My brother passed away a few years ago at the age of 36 due to complications of his type 1 diabetes. He too had no insurance or job but had a wonderful doctor willing to give him samples and treated him for free as long as he was willing to take care of himself. My brother didn't do that and is now gone. My mother died 20 years ago at the age of 45 from not taking care of herself and my father passed away last year. Although he did take care of himself, the damage to his body from 30+ years of diabetes took its toll at the age of 63. I have learned the hard way the importance of watching my diabetes. My endocrinologist takes what little I can pay him every couple of months and gets me as many samples as possible including test strips for my meter that he also gave me. The drug reps give them this stuff for a reason. I know that the Lion's club helps with eye expenses. There are drug trials you can participate in and get your med expenses and RX's covered. Just a few suggestions.
