Hello darehart
The symptoms you list of weight loss, hair loss, dry skin, hot areas are consistent with hyperthyroidism or Graves Disease. Diabetics do have higher risk of thyroid problems. The tests the doctor uses to monitor thyroid function are
T3 T4 TSH
In Graves disease, many times the thyroid is so overactive that it must be irradiated. After irradiation, medication to achieve the correct amount of thyroid hormone must be taken.

The endocrine sysytem is the hormones in the body. It is complicated and the organs of the system effect each other as they try to maintain homeostasis. Ask you doctor if thyroid tests have ever been drawn on you and if they were within normal range if you are concerned. If you are experiencing any of the symptoms you listed in your question, please see your doctor.
