Dear Mosierd-

I am glad you contacted dLife for your concerns. According to the drug profile of Tri-cor there are no reported side effects of this drug related to glucose levels. There is nothing mentioned regarding contributing to elevated glucose levels.

What you might consider is the natural progression of your diabetes. Over time, despite good lifestyle behaviors of meal planning and exercise, there continues to be a reduction of insulin secretion from the Beta cells, as well as a decrease in insulin sensitivity.

I have found, by patient experience, that about every 3-5 years patients need what I call a "tune up." A re-evaluation of their pre and post meal glucose levels to see if a medication is necessary to assist with glucose control.

My suggestion is to keep good glucose log records pre and two hour post meal and review them with your physician. Keep up the great work addressing your cholesterol issues to keep yourself heart healthy.
