IUGR in a newborn is sometimes the result of too many low blood sugars in the mother. That is why moms with diabetes are followed so closely during pregnancy. Gastroparesis can contribute to low blood sugars. Diabetes is a delicate balance, and is especially callenging when dealing with pregnancy. It is difficult to really "prove" cause and effect; we can only make correlations.
