"7 year old checked sugar (result 202) an hour after drinking a yoo hoo. this ok?"
Asked By: holli16

Background Info Hide
we checked my sons sugar just because he wanted it done at about 7 o'clock this evening. He had had a Yoo Hoo an hour before. Is this sugar reading too high? He has also been complaining on and off of pain in his penis (especially when in the shower and then hurts to pee afterwards). I thought it might be possible UTI, but could that have something to do with his sugar also?

Generally, one hour after eating, blood sugars run higher than normal. I would ask also what his blood sugar was before consuming the drink. High carb snacks are generally good for children to consume following a low blood sugar or prior to exercise. High blood sugars can create an environment in the urine that predispose a patient to urinary tract infections. I would have the doctor check him for this, and keep track of his A1C to make sure he is in good control.

From what I just read this drink has 24 gr of carbs in it. As a type 1 he needs to watch them. What else had he eaten in the last few hours before the drink. I dont see where you state if he dx a type 1 or type 2 but if he hasnt been dx yet you need to get him to a doctor soon.
