"Hello, I have recently (Jan '09) been diagnosed with type-2 diabetes, and since then I get an upset stomach, often with vomitting, VERY frequently."
Asked By: usawusa
Category: Type 2

Background Info Hide
I'm on metformin and gliclazide. A lot of times my stomach starts to get upset after I've been coughing a lot, or do any kind of activity with a (repeating) "crunching" motion with my stomach. (Ie, sit-ups or bending over). I DID have a reaction to metformin in the beginning, but it seemed to go away for a little while, and now it's started up again.

Thank-you for contacting dLife.

First it is important to contact your physician. I would suggest to keep a food log and identify if this occurs after a full meal vs a day with small snacks throughout the day.

As you said you have experienced side effects of Metformin. Have you increased your dosage? Have you tried it both with or without food?

That being said, there are people that just don't tolerate Metformin. Make a log of when these episodes occur and show this to your physician. Together the two of your should be able to work this out. Stay well,
