Hi tatiika! I must admit that this is an issue that I had not given much thought to. However, with today's growing beauty industry this question is probably common. Certainly, when one's blood glucose is poorly controlled or even moderately uncontrolled the immune system may not function as well. This means that common practices such as trimming toe nails or having dental work may put the person at higher risk for an infection. Waxing can be included here. Most specifically bikini waxing and especially brazilian bikini waxing. This is because of the risk of bleedingand because not all salons have good clean practices. Now, there can also be risks involved with shaving if you cut yourself especially if a razor is shared. As far as I know there are no specific recommendations on this subject. Common sense should be practiced. If you feel you must bikini wax then go to a reputable salon that demonstrates a good, clean practice. If after receiving a bikini wax you are concerned about an infection then go to your doctor right away. I would suggest that you discuss this issue with your doctor before you wax. I know it may seem embarrassing but it's always better to know how you should handle an injury before it happens. For example, if you have bleeding during a waxing your doctor may suggest a course of action you can take to treat the injury until you can get in to see him or her. I hope this helps. Keep in mind that because you have diabetes whether controlled or not, there's always a higher risk for infection and illness; and some infections can be very serious. Be careful!
