"Can Byetta and Januvia be taken together?"
Asked By: rewern
Category: Type 2

Background Info Hide
I am a type 2 diabetic and take Glipizide, Metformin, and Byetta. My doctor put me on Januvia, as well, three months ago and now tells me not to take Januvia and Byetta together. She said I could take either one but not both. This concerns me because I have been taking both for over three months. I have had no real complications. Any concerns I should be aware of???

Dear rewern, Do not take both byetta and januvia together. They are not FDA approved to be taken in this manner. They work similarly in lowering your blood sugar. Byetta has a better reputation for helping overweight people lose weight and control your appetite. If you tolerate it OK, I would consider trying Byetta alone for awhile and see how you do.

The thing is both act the same way I am very suprised you havent passed out with a low bs. Just stop taking the Januvia and all should be ok. It is more of a concern of over stimulatiing the GLP that both have. Plus you were taking metformin so be careful .
