Dear dLife guest: Controlling diabetes involves many lifestyle measures you have to work on, on a daily basis. Based on the AADE (American Association of Diabetes Educators) diabetes management involves following 7 Self-care behaviors which include:

  • Healthy Eating
  • Being Active
  • Monitoring
  • Taking Medications
  • Coping
  • Problem Solving
  • Reducing Risks
Try to incorporate all of these bahaviors gradually into your lifestyle, and you will see how it all starts getting better. If you are not achieving the weight loss you want, look at the activity level you are having. Remember that exercise or physical activity not only helps to reduce your blood sugars, but it will also burn calories to help you lose weight, and reduce stress which in turn will help improve blood sugar levels. Make an appointment with a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) who can help you tailor a plan to lose weight and better manage your diabetes.
