Dear valerief, There have been several studies showing that high protein, high fat, low carb diets are very successful for weight reduction purposes. When a person is initially diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, probably the most beneficial thing that they need to do is lose weight. If you brother can accomplish this via a low carb diet, so be it. Probably he will do this for only a short time period, and then start adding back some carbohdyrates. That is more like the South Beach Diet than the Atkins type of diet. But, losing weight and exercising are very important for him to start doing.

Many diabetics benefit greatly with a lower carb diet. Unless someone is at 15 carbs per meal I dont see anything wrong with it. Many ideas are changing on what benefits diabetes to lower bs along with weight at the same time.
