Actually, as evidenced by my children, hunger pangs can occur if blood sugar is too high (generaly over 200) or too low(below 70). High blood sugars make you hungry because your body is "starving" for energy due to too much sugar and not enough insulin to metabolize it to get energy. If your blood sugar is low, your counter-regulatory response is to eat and you feel hungry. Check your blood sugar when you feel this way to verify where your control may need adjustment.

The expert is right on the money because I experienced this same thing 25 yrs ago when first dx. I could never figure out why I could eat the house and home out even though I just had a full meal. My bs at the time were in the 400 and I could never get it down for over a year or two.
