American Diabetes Association recommends fasting blood sugar to be less than 130 mg/dl, and 2 hours post meal a blood sugar under 180 mg/dl is ideal.
A simple way to balance your meals is the plate method-- 1/4 of your plate should be starchy foods, 1/4 protein ( lean meat, chicken, fish, etc., and 1/2 non starchy vegetables).
