"I'm having very high blood sugars due to a serious foot infection."
Asked By: morrie

Background Info Hide
I have had to go to the Dr.s for three days to have antibiotic shots for the infection in my foot,I also have to take Levaquin 750mg. that also raises my BS. my BS was 158 this morning, but I was going to mow the grass, riding mower but it took 3 hours over some rough terrain. I didn't eat wasn't hungry & I didn't take any insulin because I thought the exercise that I would get would lower my BS. Not so, 3 hour later it was 284. so I took 15 IU of humalog, took a shower fixed lunch and when I took it again before I ate it was 158. I don't know what to do. I'm just so disheartened and frustrated about this. I'm at my, WITS END!!! help

Remember that infections can cause higher blood sugar levels, so when you have an infection you may require more of your diabetes medications to achieve the same blood sugar control as when you're healthy. It is vital that you maintain frequent contact with your doctor so your insulin, etc can be adjusted to keep your blood sugars in as tight control as possible. Remember that high blood sugars can also slow the healing process, so unless blood sugars come down the foot infection may linger. Good luck!
