Hello MsPutWoman: Diabetes can complicate all our metabolic systems, and chronic infections are only one of many, unfortunately. Most , but not all, vaginal infections are caused by the fungus, Candida albicans, which may/may not respond to OTC medications, it could be a resistant bacteria, necessitating a visit to your personal care physician (PCP) Endocrinologist/OB/GYN disciplines. Signs of vaginitis would include: thick white discharge, itching, burning, redness and swelling. All very irritating symptoms which can result in discomfort, and possible pain during or after sex.

Consequent, seeing the medical experts can give you a definitive course of action/identify the bug and medications appropriate for treatment.

High blood glucose levels encourage the fungus/bacteria to grow and increase risk of potential complications. Getting the blood glucose under control will help in 'preventions.' Get back to the basics-ABC's of Diabetes:

  • A1C<7%,
  • Blood Pressure<130/80mmHg,
  • Total cholesterol<200,LDL<100,HDL>50mg/dl for women, Triglycerides<150mg/dl,
  • if you smoke, stop
  • activity to meet 150 minutes/wk per medical OK's and abilities. Maintain a healthy diet, adequate fluid intake and be your best. Thanks for calling on dLife. Let us know how we can help, regards. Sue for you
