Weight loss is a challenging & often frustrating obstacle for many of us - even without diabetes. The good news is there are multiple resources. First get rid of the word "Diet" - this is about long term lifestyle changes for good health. I have found one of the easiest ways to get started is just focusing on portion size. There are great resources on line regarding the plate method & a large library of recipes on dlife. Get a package of the divided disposable 9-10" plates and use them for every meal. 1/4 of the plate is something starchy (about 1 cup), 1/4 of the plate your lean grilled, broiled or baked protein (meat/poultry) about 4 ounces, the other 1/2 of the plate is vegetables. You can add a salad and small piece of fruit to the meal. If even this is too overwhelming - what ever you usually eat - just eat less (1 sandwhich instead of 2, 2 spoonful of potatoes instead of 3-4, 1 porkchop instead of 2) - Get the idea? It is also important to become more "mindful" of your food choices & during your meals - sit at the table not in front of the TV, think about your food as you chew & not just swallow, eating slower gives your brain time to catch up and decrease the chance of overeating. Being mindful enables you to stop when satisfied not stuffed! Overeaters Anonymous or Weight Watchers are good support groups for healthy eating. You don't mention your blood sugar control. Perhaps Byetta would be a possibility - talk with your primary care provider or endocrinologist about this medication. A referral to a nutritionist may also be very helpful. Just focusing on food for weight loss is like flying a plane with one wing. Find ways to add activity to your day - get a pedometer to count your steps and add a few every day. Move during TV commercials. Walk your dog, take a dance class - whatever will get you moving more. Moving is not only good for blood sugars & weight it will help your mood. Even 10 minutes daily will make a difference. You are not alone -
