Dear minime, If your blood sugars are as high as you are saying, the first thing I would do is make an appointment to see my doctor. You need more medication. And, most likely, that will be insulin. However, there are other options. That is why you need to have a closer relationship with your health care team and learn to take better care of your diabetes. Metformin alone is not appropriate for a person with very elevated blood sugars. If your doctor is not familiar with treating diabetes, ask for a referral to a doctor who is. Do this today!

I had a 9.7 when I was first told I had diabetes. My doctor has attacted it effectively. I was on 2000 metformins a day...an amerial a day plus two shots of beyetta (10) a day. I am now (a year later) with the help of watching my diet all the time off the amerial and down one of the metformins. I am down 35 pounds and am starting to feel so much better. I know that I will continue watching my diet and taking my meds. My doctor knows what he is doing.
