"For the first time since 1997-this past weekend I became very depressed. Whatever I read or heard or saw made me tear up. What can I do to get out of"

Background Info Hide
I am 62 years old. I have type 2 since 1997. I take Hum. U500-three times per day - 24 units each. I am now in stage 4 ckd. It seems that since I had open heart in 1996 my life has been going down hill. This past weekend I just sat or slept and went thru the woe is me ...I take over 28 pills a day. I am always sick in the am-I have no energy-can't sleep-I live alone-all weekend I kept thinking -"why do I want to go on? What did I do to causeG-D to treat me like this? I watched some old DLife TV shows: the one constant I saw was besides meds and diets and excercise that those who have been successful-had family! My problem is my two adult children only 'want' and I need them to give. My ex-wife (we have been divorced for 25 years)-who I gave everything to-and still love secretely (even tho she is remarried) was the only one to call me this weekend-and I could nt talk because I started to cry. What can I do to get out the this funk I am in?

Dear drad734, When people are as down in the dumps as you are, most probably they need some antidepressant medication to help them. It is not an unusual situation. The worse part is to realize you need help and to seek it. A general practitioner or your kidney doctor can prescribe medication to help you. Some people also find stress relieving activities to help them. Some people listen to music. Others do meditation. Some people find a support group to be helpful. Church groups and counseling by religious figures are helpful to some. Just having a friend to talk to is good, too. Take care of yourself and put your needs before your children. They are old enough to take care of their own needs. So, make that appointment today to see your practitioner. Show them this answer if it helps you to get the conversation started.
