"Donating blood (T2 non-diagnosed, but metering). Much web info as to qualifications. Limited (almost none) as to glucose expectation that follow. "

Background Info Hide
I introduced myself on June 25th and the community was so generous with suggestions. I continue to follow the guidance and this great resource dLife you have made available - Thank You. The internet is saturated with pre-requisite for blood donation. No detail with expectation to follow. 5 days post donation my glucose remains higher (was ave 105-115 AM, now 120-135 AM). Is this expected? Why the absence of research? I understand (and have for 20 years) the benefits of donating blood, but is there sound science to demonstrate there is not harm to individual with pre-diabetes? You folks are just an impressive group - thank you! Dave G.

Good question and you are to be commended for the research you have been doing. Thanks for being a donor! There is no research to my knowledge about donating blood and the effect on pre-diabetes. Research money is limited and I can only guess this was not a topic of significance to those w/ the money! The only explanation I can give for the slight elevation post donation is the body's stress response as it replenishes the blood loss. The elevation is certainly not in a range to be concerned with at this time. Just be cautious that fluid replacement is with carb free liquids. Close monitoring is to your benefit just to know what is going on. Hope this helps some.
