"Is horse chestnut good for leg vein problems?"
Asked By:

Background Info Hide
I have discoloration to my legs caused by blood flow not able to send blood up the leg. Blood goes down fine. I was told to wear compression stocking firm but have a hard time putting them on. I read in the Prevention Mag that a study was done (Lancette) and that horse chestnut worked as well as compression stockings after 12 weeks. I was checking to see if anyone had tried it.

Horse Chestnut has been studied quite a bit for it's positive effect on circulation. The dose and type of product used can vary study to study. I would use this with great caution, however and only with doctor supervision. It should not be used while taking blood thinners like Plavix(R) or Coumadin((R), and it also is not reccommended if you have any renal disease. It has helped some paients, but again I always encourage physician /pharmacist involvement, even for vitamins/supplements because of dug interaction potential.
