Hi there Azchris - A quick Internet search for specific stress hormones to share with you here reveals that cortisol is considered the stress hormone because so much of it is released during periods of stress. Some of the things cortisol does in the body?

  • Proper glucose metabolism
  • Regulation of blood pressure
  • Insulin release for blood sugar maintenance
  • Immune function
  • Inflammatory response
  • So you can see how this would affect your blood sugar.

info on stress and how to relieve it right here on dLife.com. I hope you find some of it to be helpful!

    Good health to you!

You still don't say how stress affects blood sugars in Type 1 diabetics, we don't have a pancreas that has any insulin to release. Also how does pain affect BS. Does all BS interference have a cortisol basis? Are there other stressors which don't involve cortisol?

When you are stressed, your body is producing cortisol which stimulates your liver to produce glucose. The glucose is pumped into your blood stream, raising your blood sugar. From food sources, carbohydrates like potatos and pasta, not just sweets, will raise your blood sugar. All calories, including fats, can be converted into blood glucose. Non-carbohydrate calories get converted to glucose very slowly, but they do count.

Are you under the impression that sweets is all that raise bs it sure isnt. Many things can raise bs like stress, colds, flu and so on even sterioids which raised mine to 300 last week. Also you know carbs raise bs and there not sweet so food is just a basic thing that raises bs. I hope that this helps that there are many factors that raise bs.
