No one else in either family side has type1. Their paternal grandfather has type 2. I am aware of the signs to watch for and neither has symptoms.

Your children may be more prone to developing diabetes due to heredity, but the risk is not huge. The children should have periodic A1C's taken by their regular physician. This will help you see if they have a problem with glucose tolerance. Another thing to check is a periodic blood sugar two hours after a large meal. If this level starts to get high, it could be a sign of diabetes. Usually just watching for the signs and symptoms of diabetes and yearly bloodwork from your doctor should be suffcient.
