First take a deep breath - and another. Stress makes blood sugars go up! It is very easy & a common response to deny diabetes because high sugars are not "painful" like a headache & you can keep functioning. We often think if it doesn't hurt, must not be that serious. Unfortunately ignoring diabetes is very serious - high sugars cause damage. Getting blood sugars under control helps prevent or delay complications. Start with calling your primary care provider to make an appointment. Ask to see a certified diabetes educator and nutrition consult to help with your meal planning. In the mean time make some simple changes in your eating and activity habits. Stop concentrated sweets like soda, desserts, juice. Use the plate method - 1/4 of plate lean protein (meat, poulty, fish), 1/4 plate starchy food ( 1 cup rice, pasta, potatoe, corn peas, etc), 1/2 plate unstarchy vegetables - even adding a side salad or small piece of fruit. Portion size is very important no matter what you eat. Start daily walking - 10 minutes after meals - increase the time and intensity as you are able. Monitor & record your blood sugars - fasting & 2 hours after meals give the best information. The good news is you are now ready for to take action and assume responsibility for your diabetes! It is a process so be patient & consistent in your efforts.

I really sympathize, and hope you are doing better today, 11 days after your post? I was overwhelmed also, and the best thing I did was go to a Diabetes Educator and tell myself I could manage the steps one at a time. There will be good days and bad, but realize you are handling it the BEST you can, and doing all you can. Good Luck.

Hi Chris I answered you in the type 2 room. If your bs are in the 600 you need imediate attention. I dont care what you have to do but you need help. So even if it takes freinds or family to help you get some. The best thing you can do for yourself is lower your carb intake. To have 600 bs you have to be either eating lots of carbs or you have extreme stress in your body. We are here for you also being active helps lower your numbers.
