Dear linda duvall, When a person has had their thyroid removed, they will need to be on thyroxin medication the rest of their life. Your physician will test you repeatedly while the dose is adjusted until it is at an appropriate level. There is a range of normal level, so you can discuss with your physician whether you should aim for the lower part of the range versus the upper normal levels. That may help you with your weight loss efforts. Also look for help from a dietitian who works with people who has diabetes. Also evaluate your activity/exercise level and see if your can bump it up a notch. Good luck to you and I encourage you to seek help and not try to lose weight on your own.
