"Recently I have had morning fasting bs levels in the 200's. I have uped my metformin, exercise, eat well..A1c was 5% now 7.3.Why? Stress?"

Background Info Hide
I have always had great control of my bs. My A1c was in the 5's. I even got off my metformin for about six months. A lot has changed since then though.. My father passed away. Changed jobs, money has been tight. My dr's don't think my fasting blood sugars are a big deal, but I do. My blood test results are great.. good cholesterol, good insulin. Could this all be from stress and stress alone? That's what they think, but I'm not sure. I have been told eat less carbs and eat more carbs... not sure what is right. Just want my mornings back and confidence...I feel like I'm failing. I take xanax for anxiety , could that increase fasting bs?

Stress can play a big role in bs control. It might be another factor like an illness or even worry that the a1c is going higher it all has something to do with it. It even could be your pancreas is getting tired and needs more help. There is no way to know other than health tests.
