Background Info Hide
I am a type 2 diabetic since 1999 and have tight control over my diabetes til 08, A1c 6.6. Dr said need to go on Metformin. I tryed my best to keep my weight in check, exercise, eat right, and keep a positive attitude. I feel like I failed, and I am now working on getting my numbers back to the 5 range. I am exercising more, aerobic, more walking cutting calories. It seems like the older I get the harder it is to control this condition.

Dear Peaceful, First of all, let me say that you have not at all failed at diabetes control. Just by virtue of all the things you are doing to achieve control you are a huge success!! What happens as we get older is that our bodies don't quite respond like we used to. Our ability to produce insulin is often reduced as we age and oftentimes new drugs need to be added to a current regime. This is very common, and with some discussion with your health care team you can be back on track. This may take an increase of your current medication or the addition of a new one. In any event, you will be back to great control. It is evident that you live a heatlhy lifestyle, and that is half the battle.
