"My Husband also is a diabetic and he drives a semi what foods can i make or buy for him so he doesn't half to stop at fast food or truck stops to eat"

he just keeps gaining weight when he needs to be losing can you help me he has also had three heart attaks one which was a 5way by-pass also needs to be low sodium because he holds water even with water pills

Thanks for writing dLife Your questions is very good as it is quite a challenge for those who are on the road many hours to eat properly, but with planning it can be done!. First, consider the options that he has for food storage and food safety. Does he have the ability to carry a plug in or portable cooler to keep healthful foods close by such as fresh fruits, cut up vegetables, string cheese, and lean sandwich meats such as roast beef, ham or turkey? If so, his choices would be greatly increased. Also, pre-portioned healthful snacks such as unsalted nuts, high fiber crackers (such as Wasa) and plenty of water or low calorie fluids are also important for long trips. Choosing a variety of healthful breads for sandwiches or wraps can jazz up a sandwich- such as whole wheat, rye or whole grain tortillas. Keeping some condiments on hand such as a gourmet mustard or pre-packed hummus for dipping with cut up vegetables can also work well. If he does need to stop for meals, even at truck stops there are good choices. Minimizing fried foods, requesting sauces and dressings on the side, as well as extra fruit or vegetables in place of salty and starchy side dishes such as rice pilaf or potatoes and gravy can really help. Minimizing the intake of cheese can make a big difference as well. Before he leaves on his trip, you can even pre-pack sandwiches ahead of time and freeze them, with out lettuce or tomato, which can be added later. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on whole wheat bread are always dependable anc satisfying as well. Consider also what he might be eating while driving,which can get people into trouble with weight..snacks such as chips, cookies and other high calorie foods can really add up.
