I am concern that you have had an infection since May. How has your blood glucose (sugar) been?
Macrobid is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this drug at evenly spaced intervals as prescribed. Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a return of the infection.
The bacteria may also be resistant to the antibiotic. Let your urologist know about the recurring infection. He or she can prescribe a different antibiotic that may work better. Keep in mind that not everyone responds to the same medication.
Any infection will increase blood glucose and increased blood glucose will increase the likelihood that the infection will occur and return. Continue to monitor your blood glucose closely. If your blood glucose levels stay elevated, contact your family doctor who is managing your diabetes or endocrinologist (a doctor who specializes in diabetes care). He or she can review your diabetes treatment plan and make the necessary adjustments.
The best way to avoid recurring UTI or any infection is to keep blood glucose in good control.
Take care.
