Background Info Hide
I no longer care for any type of food. (I'm 67, still work a ful time job and walk 30 minutes daily) .Any type of meat is disgusting to me. My A1c has been 5.0 the past 6 months. I want to be sure that I am eating the proper foods that will keep me healthy. Should I be adding supplements to my diet?

Yes, it is very likely that you need supplementation. However, it's important that you speak with a knowledgeable professional about your specific health situation and your eating habits and lifestyle, so you can come up with a good eating and supplement regimen. A registered dietitian who is also a certified diabetes educator is what you need to ask for. Best of luck to you!

I have been on Dr. Bernstein's program for about 2 years. My A1C is now 4.6, without insulin. Dr. Bernstein strongly recommends against a vegetarian diet for diabetics, because it's super hard to get the nutrition you need without raising your blood sugar. He has tried, but has not been able to consistently control blood sugar in vegetarians. Though he's controversial, his program works for me. My doctors can't believe the results.
