"I use the one touch ultra meter. I prefer the freestyle lite but the "lite" frequently reads 20 points higher. Is the difference significant?"

Blood glucose meters are not reading actual blood glucose numbers, but in reality reporting an average number. These numbers can be 10-15% different when repeated using the same meter or when using a different meter or compared to a laboratory test. This is as accurate as meter technology is at this time. So, depending on your blood sugar value, a 20 point different may or may not be an acceptable difference. If you blood sugar is 100, then a blood sugar of 85-115 would be within an acceptable range when tested on a different meter; however, if your blood sugar is 200, then the acceptable range would be much wider, between 170 and 230.
