"My daughter has had hypoglycemic episodes and has had high blood sugar a few moths ago. I wanna know whats going on here. could this be prediabetes?"
Asked By: hopesmommy

Background Info Hide
My daughter is 17 months old. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes while I was pregnant with her. One morning I slept in and woke up around noon usually she wakes me up around 9- 10 oclock and I went to her room and woke her she acted lathargic, limp and drained of all energy. I tried to get her dressed i would sit her up and she would just flop over like she could not sit up on her own so I decided to check her blood and it was 59 and we gave her sugar water and a peanut butter sandwhich and she was back to normal then we went to eat after and she ate chicken nuggets and i decided to see where her bg was and it was 225 and alittle later it was189. We have taken her to a couple doctors and then an endocranologist and we are still stumped because we have been checking her sugar three times a day before breakfast before supper and before bed and her sugars are between 70 and 110. She pees alot expecially at night she pees threw her diaper and the plastic cover and she drinks alot.

This could be diabetes, but in order to know for sure you would want an A1C done as soon as possible. Also you can use ketodiastix to test the urine in the diaper to test for sugar and/or ketones. I would ask about any recent weight loss that you may have noticed in your daughter. Getting the proper testing done by your medical team should help you get some answers as to what is causing your daughters' symptoms.

As another mother, I would keep testing and stay vigilant with the Drs. just as a precaution. I had to leave a response to your question because my son was the exact same way. Plus he was always getting sick with everything as a baby. When he was 3 yrs old he was dx'd as type 1. At that point his fasting bg was 598. I'm not saying this is the case with your child, but just be consistent with your monitoring to be sure. The Drs. all looked at me like I was crazy but as a mom you know when something is not right with your child.Take care and stay strong about your concerns! I hope for the best for your daughter.

As young as your daughter is I would absolutely keep and eye on this. Bs as high as she has are not normal but a high can bring about a low. To many carbs then the body shoots an over amount of insulin and you then have a low. It happens to my wife a few times a year and she is not a diabetic.
