I am 32 years old and am in week 31 of pregnancy. I've been treating my gestational diabetes for about 1.5 months. Up until the past two weeks all my numbers have been fantastic. All of a sudden my fasting numbers are high and nothing I do brings them down.

Thanks for writing dLife. Your question and concern is a very common one regarding gestational diabetes. As pregnancy progresses, hormonal changes tend to make women with gestational diabetes more insulin resistant, thus the insulin that your own body is producing to control blood glucose levels may not be able to work as effectively. You may be doing everything right - diet, activity, etc., however this still may not be enough to keep blood sugar in control as well as it should be for the best outcome. Fasting blood sugars are especially affected by hormone levels that fluctuate during the night and diet changes may not help as much as needed, but it would be a very good idea to review your food intake with a registered dietitian/diabetes educator. Discuss this issue with your physician and the options available to control fasting blood glucose levels. Very good blood sugar control during pregnancy is very important for the health of your baby.
