Dear Ms Ladydy; I have not heard anything about Januvia causing cancer. Januvia, somewhat new to the market, targets incretin hormones. Technically know as a, 'Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) Inhibitors: sitagliptin phosphate' (Januvia®) Januvia's primary Action is to : Inhibits DPP-4, an enzyme that rapidly inactivates incretin hormones which play a part in the body’s regulation of glucose. There are 2 major incretin hormones: glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP). These gastrointestinal tract-derived hormones are released in response to nutrient ingestion. Incretins are responsible for the majority of glucose stimulated insulin secretion. DPP-IV inhibitors enhance incretin’s action by increasing GLP-1 and GIP. By increasing and prolonging active incretin levels, the drug helps to increase insulin release and decrease circulating glucose. This leads to reduced fasting, postprandial and A1C levels, improved insulin sensitivity and preservation of beta-cell function. Unlike the incretins, DPP IV-inhibitors do not slow gastric emptying nor cause weight loss. They have no associated risk for hypoglycemia or weight gain. This is it's technical action and I have received very positive feedback about it's actions. However, no strong conclusive information about it causing cancer or any other adverse medical conditions. Thanks for asking dLife. Any changes in recommendations, you'll find it here. Thanks again, take care. Regards Sue
