Greetings Grandmother! Usually concerning 'timing' of boluses: as adults, we usually know the amount of carbohydrate that we intend to eat and therefore bolus for a certain amount of carbohydrate prior to eating. With a child, it is always uncertain how much the child will actually eat. So it is safer to bolus following the meal. That way, that caregiver can help the child count the actual carbohydrate grams eaten and bolus accordingly. Please let us know if this answers your question. If not, write us back and hopefully I can answer more adequately with more information! Thanks for writing 'Ask the Expert"
