Hello,

Juggling carbohydrates, cholesterol and blood pressure can be challenging. Although there are medicine for these issues, meal planning and exercise are foundation to successful treatment. Your husband is fortunate that you want to help him to improve his health.

It would be important for your husband to talk with a registered dietitian about establishing a meal and exercise plan to help control his blood glucose (sugar), cholesterol, and blood pressure. He or she can help him establish an individualized detailed plan that takes into consideration his lifestyle and include his favorite foods. He will learn about portion control, how to read food labels, eating out, and make more healthful food choices. He may want you to sit on the educational sessions . This way, you will be better able to help him with his treatment plan. It's a family affair!

Take care.

Much of diabetes is getting back to nature. For some that is not easy but it is so true. Processed foods are not so good for us at all. If his numbers were as high as you stated he needs to change his habits and that means rethink what he has done in the past. Sounds like he is in need of some major changes. Start with simple walking plan time to get out and move and eat natural foods not things bagged, boxed or canned. Fresh is best is my moto and it does help. Lower the simple carb level and eat complex carbs.
