Hello beverly1
Diabetics are at high risk for vision complications because of microvascular damage in the tiny vessels in the back of the eye. When glucose levels are above normal, the blood becomes thick and sticky and cannot flow through the vessels easily. There can be ruptures and bleeding. The optic nerve can be damaged or the leaking blood can irritate any of the eye structures it touches.

It is in the guidelines for diabetics to have a retinal examination at least annually. In this examination, the doctor looks at the back of the eye for any retinal damage or leaking vessels. The doctor will also check for cataracts and glaucoma. Diabetics are at high risk for these conditions too. Color is recognized through structures called cones ands rods. They transmit impulses to the brain. It is within the realm of possibility that your cones and rods have been damaged by hyperglycemia. Please see your ophthalmologist.

We hope to here back from you in dLife blogs so others can learn from your experience.
