"In March my microalbumin was 327.7 and my A1C was 10.1%. Kidney function was 0.7. I have turned my averages around but still have foamy urine. Why?"

Background Info Hide
I have lost 100 pounds in a 30 year span. I still ate carbs. I take oral meds and have hit the wall with those. The next step is shots and I will not do that unless I can eat more carbs and maintain my weight and blood sugar. I can't even eat 100 carbs a day without it spiking my glucose levels. I got serious about my diabetes (again) when I got the results back in March. I was also getting bladder infections at least once a month and foamy urine since November 2008. That's why I decided to take the bloodwork in March. I couldn't wait any longer and had to do something. I hate diabetes, deprivation, denial, you name it. THE JOY OF EATING HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM MY LIFE AND IT IS NOT FUN ANYMORE. MY WHOLE LIFE REVOLVED AROUND FOOD. FOOD WAS PREVALENT IN EVERYTHING I'VE EVER DONE (the movies, amusement parks, birthday parties, horse races, get-togethers, vacations, holidays, everywhere, everything). I DON'T GO ANYWHERE OR DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THE TORTURE OF CONSTANT DEPRIVATION IS TOO MUCH!!!

Thank you so much for writing me back. My mom died at age 47 in 1975 due to type 1 diabetes complications. I was always mad at her for not taking care of herself but now I know why. Lately, it's been one of the hardest things I've had to do. I've always been able to count calories and fats to lose the weight but now having to give up even more and feeling absolutely deprived is just too much. Everything has carbs--just everything. I'm so disgusted and angry. I'd like to know how many carbs, calories and fats you eat a day with your insulin medication. Does it make you gain weight? They had me on actos and it was terrible. I started to gain weight almost daily. If I could eat more carbs then I'd be able to have a little more freedom of choice. I'm terrified just to think about injecting myself---just terrified. I know I have to do something to improve my quality of life and quantity. If that is the only way that will allow me more carbs per day without raising my blood sugar I must do it--if that is the answer. Most days I go to bed hungry because my food choices are so limited I'd rather not eat. I'm not depressed or anything just soooooooo frustrated. It feels good to talk to someone who knows what I'm going through. Thank you for letting me vent and thank you for the congratulations on my weight loss. When people ask me how I did it I answer with this sentence, "I learned how to forgive myself."

Why do you think I did not want insulin, needle freak here. That is in the pass tense. I honestly have to remind myself I took the shot because I dont feel them. The new pen needles are so fine its not even funny. I do want to say because I have insulin doesnt say hey eat all the junk you want. I have to be responsible because if I ate all the bad stuff even with insulin I would go right back up to the 400 I did 20 yrs ago so I know. It gives you freedom yes but you do need to take control of what you eat. To me good control is so well worth it, my mom went blind at age 40 or so because there were no meters back then, her doc told her if you dont feel bad dont come in to see me. What a freakin idiot that is not how you monitor diabetes. Well yes insulin gives you freedom and yes I was just as frightened as you are and maybe even more no kidding. I dont even think about it believe me it is fast easy and really not a big deal. Now 24 yrs ago I thought just like what you did hang in there life will get better.

I can so much understand your frustration. It isnt so much food but the type of food we miss. I had to go on insulin 24 yrs ago because I could not get my bs under 400 and had fastings over 200 the first year. I regret not going on it sooner I have so much neuropathy damage it wasnt worth those first few years off insulin. Believe me I did not want insulin but let tell you it is the best thing for me. High bs can only do harm and I know what it did to my mom, she went blind when our daughter was born she never was able to see any of her grand kids. That was before meters and all they know today. I can say this it isnt to late for you and again I know what you mean about food, other foods can be good we just have to change our thinking on it. I so also congratulate you on the 100 lb loss that is great.
