"How does my fiance who is diagnosed with diabetes affect me?"
Asked By: jvisperas

Background Info Hide
My fiance and I are trying to have children. In the last several months I had been making frequent stops to my gynecologists for yeast infections. Severe symptoms and a talk with his parents prompted me to have my fiance tested for diabetes. Blood test revealed he was at 16 and is now taking medication. Could this be the explanation for me having the frequent yeast infections???

I would like to know if your fiance is taking good care of himself and his diabetes. It seems if you are unaware of his diagnosis that he may not be testing his blood sugar like he should. If a family member has diabetes, the whole family should learn to live a healthy lifestyle to take good care of the one they love. Your yeast infection may be the result of a PH change from your fiance, especially if his diabetes is in poor control. You need to learn more about helping him take good care of his diabetes so your new family will be healthy.

That's what I thought. Up until now, he was not taking care of his diabetes. Since the visit to the doctors, he was prescribed oral medications (Astros?? or something 850mg twice daily). The doctors said they may have to change to insulin if he remains high. I believe the doctor was hesitant in prescribing insulin because my fiance is only 34. The yeast infections is what irritates me the most as this is all new to me. We want children but the efforts of doing so is deterred by my irritations. Is there now way of getting around this?

At this young age health is of upmost importance. You say he is taking medication, Is it insulin or an oral med, what do his bs run are they high. Sounds to me like that is a very important question in all of this.
