Dear Fiercekitten: In type 2 diabetes, your body produces some insulin (by the pancreas) but it does not work very well. That is what is called "insulin resistance". This insulin resistance usually improves when a balanced diet and regular exercise regimen is implemented. Also, if you are overweight, losing some weight will decrease the resistance of your body cells to use insulin. At this point if you are not using medications, you can control your diabetes with lifestyle modifications. If you have not done so alreaady, make an appointment with a Certified diabetes educator (CDE) who can help you design a healthy eating plan based on your individual needs.

Most of us when were dx have high bs. It sounds to me as if what your doing is right. Can it be reversed like as it never happened that is up for debate. Can you control that is a big yes, now will it ever get to the point you need meds only higher up authorities have that answer. Many can control thru diet and exercise into the 60 and 70' s but we are all so different but so far it sounds as if your body is reacting very well to what you are doing. My point I always make is stop doing what your doing and you run the chance of going off the deep end, that goes for each and everyone of us.

Thanks to both the expert and community answer. To clarify - I meant, was it possible that my liver wasn't "leaking" and my cells were just not absorbing. When I found out I was diabetic I had a fasting BG of 397. I have brought it down to fasting BG of 120 - 160 (most mornings) through diet and exercise. I was just wondering if my pancreas and liver are irreprably damaged or if a lifestyle change (like what I'm doing now with diet and exercise) would take care of it and stop/reverse damage or if I will have to go on medication at some point. Again..thanks for answering. This site and everone are so helpful to me. I really appreciate all the help/

Did you mean the pancreas here. Many times type 2 is insulin resistant and many many type 2 have a problem with it.
