Category: Type 2

Background Info Hide
I am not following a diabetic diet. My blood pressure recently has been 165/90 and I have gained over 80 lbs from steroids due to asthma. My A1C was 5.7 recently, however, it had been 7.0. I take Metformin twice daily. I get horrible sweats, dizziness, etc and cannot seem to level my diabetes. I do not know what to eat etc. I was diagnosed several years ago with Type 2 and high insulin. I have numerous health issues, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart murmur.

Pancreatitis has been linked to diabetes, although I am not sure if cause and effect has been established ; such as does the diabetes make pancreatitis more likely or does pancreatitis cause diabetes? In any event, the site of insulin production is in the pancreas, so it would make sense that a problem here may result in diabetes. If you have high insulin levels, that indicates to me that you are insulin resistant to a degree. That means that you may have enough insulin being produced but your body cannot utilize it properly. Steroids and weight gain can cause blood sugars to go up. You may want to start a diet plan that is high in lean meats and fresh vegetables, avoiding high carbohydrate foods like bread and potatoes. Check with your health care team for a diet plan that is right for you. Make sure you check your blood pressure daily and work with your doctor to get that number lower, that will help you feel better as well.
