Blood pressure pills classified as ACE Inhibitors (Such as Lisinipril) and ARBS (Such as Diovan) are both associated with providing kidney protection for people with diabetes. It is recommended that ACE Inhibitors be prescribed first, but some people experience an annoying dry cough when taking this class of drugs. ARBS are a good and effective alternative that should not cause a dry cough. Kidney protection using ARBS or ACE Inhibitors is becoming a common standard of care for preventing diabetes complications. Some studies indicate that ARBS and ACE Inhibitors may also prevent development and progression of diabetes eye disease. Good luck and thanks for the question.
